Abdi Ipekci Basketball Arena in Istanbul
Abdi Ipekçi Arena is a multi-purpose indoor sports complex located in Zeytinburnu district of Istanbul. It was opened in 1986 and named after the famous Turkish journalist Abdi Ipekçi killed in 1979. It is the largest indoor sports complex of Turkey, with a total capacity of 10,500 spectators. Efes Pilsen, Fenerbahce Ulker, and Galatasaray Cafe Crown teams play here in the national league.
In 1992 Euroleague Final Four and in 2001 European Basketball Championship was organized in the Abdi Ipekci Arena. Besides basketball and volleyball tournaments, the Arena also holds some concerts and congresses. For example, Eurovision Song Contest was held here in 2004.
Other basketball complexes in Istanbul are: Ayhan Sahenk complex, Ayazaga complex, Suleyman Seba complex, Haldun Alagas complex, and Ahmet Comert complex.
