Abdi Ipekci Basketball Arena in Istanbul
Abdi Ipekçi Arena is a multi-purpose indoor sports complex located in Zeytinburnu district of Istanbul. It was opened in 1986 and named after the famous Turkish journalist Abdi Ipekçi who was assassinated in 1979. It is one of the largest indoor sports complexes of Turkey, with a total capacity of 10,500 spectators. Efes Pilsen, Fenerbahce Ulker, and Galatasaray Cafe Crown teams play here in the national league.
In 1992 Euroleague Final Four, in 2001 European Basketball Championship, and in 2010 World Championship were organized in the Abdi Ipekci Arena. Besides basketball and volleyball tournaments, the Arena also holds some concerts and congresses. For example, Eurovision Song Contest was held here in 2004.
Other basketball complexes in the province of Istanbul are: Ayhan Sahenk complex, Ayazaga complex, Suleyman Seba complex, Haldun Alagas complex, Ahmet Comert complex, and the new Sinan Erdem Arena.
